I am very fortunate in that I am surrounded by a lot of very talented and diverse people who in my opinion have their arts and crafts talents finely honed. The trouble with this is that I look at their work and think ‘Oh I wish I could do that’. So what holds us back from trying out all this new stuff, fear of getting it wrong, not having the equipment necessary, being too scared to be seen as a second-rate artist ?
What a load of rubbish….the only thing holding you back from trying something new is YOU.
I have over the years dabbled in woodwork where I was VERY SKILLED in the art of making sawdust, Metalwork where I could make finger sized metal splinters with consummate ease, and lets not forget my drawing phase where I would sit for hours on end not knowing what to draw and would therefore just doodle intricate patterns, they call it Zentangle these days, go figure, I was way ahead of my time on that one !
So where is all this chatter leading to I wonder, well that’s easy…..Chimpy has a new interest to try out and it is all down to my VERY artistic sister who has inherited our Fathers ability when it comes to adding paint to canvas and in fact I think she is probably a tad better than he was too. x
Chimpy is getting into Art Journaling. Put ‘Art Journals’ into a you tube search and prepare to loose yourself for the next few hours. I have already finished my very first Journal and am just about to embark on a Journal page called ‘Messy monochrome’ this is a challenge on a site run by a lady called Jelliebellie. So my point I am trying to make in a very roundabout way is never say never…..go on and give something new a try, you never know how good you could be if you don’t even try. I am no expert but the fun I am having along the way makes it all worth the effort. Chimpy. x
