The Art Elements blog hop has come around again and I have to say that I am really enjoying being part of this. Check them out http://www.artelements.net/
So this months challenge was ‘swirls’ and it just so happens that it has combined beautifully with a FB group challenge and a new FB group I have joined. They are all about Spirals and so it all links together beautifully. My first thought was of this piece I made a few years back as the sky fits the theme perfectly.
I have several older pieces I have made that fit the Swirl/Spiral challenge but this for me was all about making a new piece. I did think about doing another Bead Loom piece but inspiration was not forthcoming so I decided to do an off loom piece.
I am not usually a person who thinks too much about colours and usually just pull out beads that I like the look of. This ‘usually’ works for me and so I employed this tactic this time round as well and I am happy to say I love the end result.
This was the start of the piece and it really does not look like anything…….
However, make it long enough and then turn it into a doughnut shape, add some sparkle to the centre and voila, You have a swirl that I have been told reminds people of a Sea Urchin or a 9 legged octopus! My son think it looks like a Pokemon character…..Me I just think it looks pretty. I am a simple person at heart. I hope you like it too.

It looks beautiful and I have to agree, highly organic like some sea creature! Which makes me love it even more!
Such a pretty piece! Beautifully done and a great color combination
Your beadwork is remarkable! I love that you can think in multiple dimensions with your work! Beautiful 🙂
Coincidentally, my attempt at last month’s challenge was the same spiral, except it didn’t get turned into a doughnut. The ‘twist’ in your project makes me really happy. 🙂
What a gorgeous bead and perfect for this challenge!
Utter precision. Awe inspiring. Brava!
Gorgeous bead work. The texture and colors go great together.
That’s such a cool design! Love the colors you chose too!
Beautiful work, love your pendant
Beautiful bead weaving! That spiral weave really does look like a colorful sea creature.
Love your bead weaving,… the spiral piece is amazing!
Thank you everyone for your lovely comments.
Yes, your beadwork is beautiful! Your wall hanging – wow! Yes, sea creature? Cool! Love it!
Its like a plant pod and a sea urchin, making me think of swirls in nature… Its lovely! The loomed piece is very cool – I like the way it is inspired by but has visually evolved from Van Gogh’s piece. Sorry I was so late to hop, I have been away since the reveal.
