The Art Elements blog hop has come around again and I have to say that I am really enjoying being part of this. Check them out http://www.artelements.net/
So this months challenge was ‘swirls’ and it just so happens that it has combined beautifully with a FB group challenge and a new FB group I have joined. They are all about Spirals and so it all links together beautifully. My first thought was of this piece I made a few years back as the sky fits the theme perfectly.
I have several older pieces I have made that fit the Swirl/Spiral challenge but this for me was all about making a new piece. I did think about doing another Bead Loom piece but inspiration was not forthcoming so I decided to do an off loom piece.
I am not usually a person who thinks too much about colours and usually just pull out beads that I like the look of. This ‘usually’ works for me and so I employed this tactic this time round as well and I am happy to say I love the end result.
This was the start of the piece and it really does not look like anything…….
However, make it long enough and then turn it into a doughnut shape, add some sparkle to the centre and voila, You have a swirl that I have been told reminds people of a Sea Urchin or a 9 legged octopus! My son think it looks like a Pokemon character…..Me I just think it looks pretty. I am a simple person at heart. I hope you like it too.

Sometimes as creative people we need a little jolt to take us out of our comfort zones. I have found myself needing this recently. After all of the excitement of having my Bead Loom weaving book published (https://www.vivebooks.com/shop/modern-bead-loom-weaving/) I have sat around in my craft room feeling out on a limb not really knowing what to do next. My friend Catrin mentioned the Art Elements blog (http://www.artelements.net/) and that I should take a look. So, here I am joining in with some amazingly talented people and loving it.
This months challenge was ‘Seed Pods’ I have had great fun pulling beads out of my stash having a little play and thinking Nah! Then I decided to play with the crescent beads and it all just seemed to come together beautifully.
I made my little seed pod earrings. They remind me of a miniature pine cone just waiting to explode new life out. Of course I couldn’t make just one pair so came up with some fun summer colours as well.
I have really enjoyed this and even though the earrings are little pieces and relatively easy to make I have found a new sense of creativity has started up again so thank you to my friend Cat for mentioning this great idea. This has sparked that little flame that we all need to fan every so often to keep the creative juices flowing.
I shall be on holiday when the deadline comes up so will schedule this blog to ‘hopefully’ post in my absence. I will be adding the links for the other bloggers when I get back.
